Hello! Welcome to my visual-autobiographical blog! Since you’re here, and you’re interested enough to read my About Page, I would be delighted to enlighten you about the goals of this blog. My intention is to go through, in no particular linear order, many of my most notable memories, and to explore and revisit my past. I also have a terrible memory, so this is also for when I get all old and crusty and can’t remember anything beyond the past 20 minutes.

For some time now I have admired the new form of visual-biographical blogs and comics, such as Hyperbole and a Half, or comics like Satrapi’s Persepolis or Guy Delisle’s travelogues. I think it’s the best kind of journal for a visual artist because (speaking for myself, at least) artists need to recount stories in images as well as words. I believe there is an exact meaning that written works cannot portray alone if unaccompanied by images, and that, in the same vein, there’s a lot you can’t say with wordless pictures. For these reasons (along with the obvious motives like “it’s prettier!” or “I like colours and stuff”) I admire the visual-biographical genre.

So, Marita, what makes you so special? What makes you worth my precious procrastination time? Whoa, such wild, aggressive questions. Well, if I may declare my resume to you, ahe-he-HEM, let’s see here… it says I’m a person. Now, if I may implore you to use your own imaginations for a moment, and to conjure up all the possible experiences one person can have in two decades of life, you’ll have your answer. I have a lot of memories! I have a lot of stories! And so do you! So why aren’t I writing an autobiography Marita? I don’t know reader, why aren’t you? Should I be? Well, yeah, that’s why I am. Would you read my blog? If you read mine. I am reading yours. Well then there you go.

Marita, we’re rambling. Oh yes, sorry. So, goals: recount my memoires in humourous, cartoony blog posts. What my form is: a visual-autobiography. Who am I? A Canadian who has some stories to tell. Who do I want to read this? Anyone and everyone who wants to enjoy some fun stories. So that’s it? Yeah, that’s it.
